WHAT IS AN INNOVATION CLUSTER?

An innovation cluster is a group of interconnected organisations – companies, suppliers, service providers and universities that operate in a particular field or industry sector, usually in close geographic proximity to each other. Participants usually have a recognised specialisation within their industry value chain and a critical mass of entities in a regional concentration that can form the basis for triggering cooperation and dynamic relations within and outside of the cluster.

By aggregating their expertise, technologies, specialised resources, capital and knowledge, innovation cluster members can share advantages, including new partnerships, collaboration and fast exchange of knowledge, which fosters innovation and new ways of doing business.

Advantages include:

Collaboration

Structured collaboration between entrepreneurs, industry, research & academia to solve industry challenges
Strong collaboration with international centres of expertise

Independent

A non-partisan, not-for-profit entity driving collaboration & innovation

Consistency

A consistent approach to addressing local industry challenges

Solutions Oriented

Practical research delivering practical solutions to industry challenges

Sustainability

Development of a strong local supply sector supporting the industry
